Mugshots Planet: Learning About the Ins and Outs of British Prison Food

Posted by stevebakkum35 on April 13, 2013 at 2:15 AM

Here are the basics of prison cuisine in Britain. EveryBritish prison kitchen undergoes inspection from an independent organization...to be more specific, the HM Prison Inspectorate... that ensures all prisons arefollowing regulations and aren't committing any human rights violations. Theyalso do these inspections irregularly to keep all prisons on their toes. Eventhough the American-based Mugshots Planet probably doesn't have any ofthe mugshots of British prisoners in their database, it is interesting to seehow Britain treats its prisoners and how it contrasts to the best and worsttreatment that inmates face when being held in an American prison. It's a greatcase study, if you will.

British Prisons Pay Close Attention to Meals and HowThey're Prepared

·        Some American prisons might hold to the same modelof standards that British prisons have, but many don't and are consideredcesspools that test the limits of human rights (hence the prevalence ofmale-on-male rape) instead of correctional facilities. With that said, everyBritish kitchen is managed, organized, and maintained with the very higheststandards every time. Not exactly five-star hotel standards, but standards thatat least allow the food to be served in human conditions.

·        The HM Prison Service used to have Crown Immunitythat prevented any form of prosecution through the courts for any rule breakingon its part, but this went away around the Eighties. Even though the crowncould never prosecute its own, that was rendered irrelevant when the HM PrisonService was no longer crown-protected. This actually led to even stricter rulesin health and safety.

·        More to the point, ever since the HM Prison Servicelost crown immunity, corruption was staved off and there are now more severesanctions for prisons that don't have standard-meeting performance on any area, from food preparation safety to the actual quality of the food itself. Cateringand delivery of food is also judged with keener eyes nowadays. Poor managementand hygiene is grounds for a kitchen to get closed down.Click here toknow more about it
